First, before the post that actually relates to the title, I just want to say that I think this Christmas was one of the best we've had and Mr Plumcute agrees. The Plumcute 4 took the past 25 days to read through the nativity story and focus our hearts. It made a difference...the Mister and I felt less inclined to be a part of retail carnage the kidlets were sweeter and less gimmie/wantie-smurf.
And when it came down to the final celebration yesterday, we had 12 at the house between family of the blood related kind and the friend related kind. The air was filled with cheerful conversation and giggeling children. The turkey and fixin's turned out wonderful with enough leftovers for the weekend. And the tree was still ginormous/beautiful/alive...well, not dried out at least. All in all it was a peaceful day. I hope that yours was too.
Now, about that title...
Last week I made a statement of fact with a goal in mind (as I previously noted I am not one for resolutions and all). The fact of the matter is, and I will prove this fact in short order, my stash is fat and that has to change...
first let's feel the weight of it by color:
creams/neutrals - 32 pounds 4 ounces
greens - 9 pounds 13 ounces
Christmas - 8 pounds 5 ounces
misc - 5 pounds 10 ounces
blacks - 10 pounds 5 ounces
browns - 6 pounds 10 ounces
reds & pinks - 20 pounds
on the bolt - 29 pounds
Total poundage - 121 pounds 10 ounces...let's round up because it makes the math easier...122 pounds
But, if you're anything like me just knowing poundage is not enough...gotta translate that into something more tangible, something like actual yardage or at least approximate yardage. Therefore, based on the average fat-quarter weighing in at 1.2 ounces I figure the average pound of fabric weighs 4.8 ounces. Again, rounding up...5 ounces. So, here goes my sketchy math conversion...
122 pounds times 16 ounces equals 1952 ounces (conversion required for that whole common denominator thingy)
divided by 5 ounces equals 390.4 yards OR in other words F-A-T !!!!!!
So, here it is in a nutshell...
stash = fat therefore must go on diet
not the binge and purge kind either more like the regular exercise
and healthy eating-habit kind
Over the next year I commit to using what I have and regularly weighing in the fat stash (and posting results) until it becomes the not-fat stash. Anyone that wants to join in please feel free to do so and if you want me to post your weigh-in results just email them in my general direction and I will share them with the blogging world.
Reduce Reuse Recycle
The End.
(Please note that no fabrics were harmed in obtaining this information nor was their natural habitat disturbed...and since the process by which this information was obtained used no fossil fuels there was no contribution to "global warming")
Blessings...
stash for the using
using the stash
usage = finished product = feel good
Until Next Time...
Tracy & her 122 pound / 390.4 yard FAT stash
PS...didn't even deal with the wool portion of the stash...maybe that will be something to look at in 2011 ?
